Hello! I wanted to drop in and give you another touch of fall before I go Christmas crazy! I spent the weekend on Pinterest looking at so many ideas and inspiration. I have so much planned that I’m going to need to start early to get it all done. Last year, I didn’t have our tree up until the second week of December and it just wasn’t enough time to enjoy it. But while I’m planning, I’ll be keeping most of my fall decor around.
Anyways, I posted this photo on Instagram last week for a hashtag challenge for pumpkins & plaid and a fun one called #WhatsInMyBasketWednesday. Then, I realized that I never shared my end table makeover! I found this table at Target on clearance, and it didn’t look anything like it does now. Here was the before –
It was the perfect height, the perfect shape, and it was a great price at only $30. However, I wasn’t a fan of the color or finish on the legs, but I knew with a little work I could fix it. We have darker colored woods and black accents in our great room, so I wanted everything to match. Leaving the table as is would of been okay, but it’d be next to my Ikea chests and I knew it wouldn’t look right.
After my Target trip I headed to Lowe’s and bought Minwax gel stain and Rustoleum black spray paint. The gel stain is great because it requires very little sanding and adheres to anything. I was pretty sure that the table tops were some type of pressed board, mdf, or laminate and wood stain wouldn’t work. I easily removed the tops by unscrewing them from the bottom and applied the gel stain. While it dried, I spray painted the legs. It was such an easy project I didn’t even take pictures or plan on a tutorial. Once it was dry, I screwed it all back together and called it done!
I love that I can decorate both the top and bottom. It’s the best of both worlds – room for the remote and an iced cold drink plus fabulous decor. The baskets and white pumpkins are from Michaels, the lantern is from Decor Steals, the pumpkin pillow is from Target’s Dollar Spot, and the plaid blanket is also from Target.
What do you think? Aren’t easy projects the best? I love finding something on clearance and transforming it to fit my own decor and style!
That's super cute!
