Fixer Upper Style

Tonight is the premiere of the new season of Fixer Upper on HGTV! This is one of my favorite shows, as I’m sure it is for most people. For the next couple months, Tuesday’s will be my favorite day of the week! I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites from the past two seasons and some creative ways to add Joanna Gaines style to your own home.

Farmhouse kitchens are my favorite with the white cabinetry, wood accents, and industrial shelving. I’ve never seen a Joanna Gaines kitchen that I didn’t like. A simple way to add farmhouse style to your home is white cabinetry, subway tile, and open shelving.

However, farmhouse style doesn’t always have to be woodsy and industrial, it can be clean and modern also. A more modern kitchen with a few accessories like a metal bottle rack or vintage lighting can still achieve the farmhouse style.

Another Joanna Gaines favorite is her dining rooms – simple and beautiful. A dining room is a staple in every home and with the right decor they can be very inviting. Every dining room on Fixer Upper makes me want to sit right down with family and eat a tasty meal. And let’s not forget Joanna is the queen of tablescapes and always thinks out the box with the decor – using books, wreaths, or other found vintage items.

Open spaces and great rooms are a signature for Chip & JoJo. Chip can always be seen tearing down a wall and he will usually make you laugh while doing it! Great rooms are ideal for families and large gatherings. Keeping a neutral palette will help make the spaces look bigger and not over cluttered, plus it makes it easy to decorate each space if they are always using the same color palette.

In each of Joanna’s spaces she creates a feeling of comfort with furniture selections, furniture placement, colors, and accessories. No matter how big or small the space, it is inviting and makes you feel like home. Using different textures and materials creates interest without appearing too busy.

Large art pieces can fill up a wall or space above furniture easily. A few large pieces will always look better than a bunch of small ones. Also, think outside the box and use items that are unique or special to you.

If you know what to look for its easy to achieve the farmhouse look and it doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t even have to go to flea markets or vintage stores to find deals on decor. I’ve found a few items with a farmhouse vibe all reasonably priced.
