Hi friends! Since the New Year I have been working a crazy schedule at work, trying to take down our Christmas decor, clean house, do laundry, help Joe paint the garage, reorganize our storage, etc. The list just goes on and on. So, this month might be a little more blogging about what I plan to do for the rest of the year, because so far I haven’t accomplished much. Ok well I take that back, I completed some DIY shelving for the kitchen that has started another re-design in our house. I say “re-design” because there was nothing wrong with our previous kitchen. I didn’t like it much, but there was nothing wrong with it. Here’s what I’ve designed to update our existing kitchen –
I’m keeping our existing paint colors – Valspar Oatland’s Subtle Taupe & Mark Twain’s Gray Brick, existing cabinetry, counter tops, and layout. I will be contacting an electrician to install my new World Market pendant lights, hopefully sooner than later. I’ve had these lights packed away in a closet for weeks months. I caught an awesome sale online one day and snatched them up!
I plan to sign up for a do-it-yourself workshop at Home Depot to learn to how to install a tile backsplash. I’m anxious to get some classic subway tile in our kitchen. I’d also like to replace our builder grade faucet with one a little more stylish. I plan to keep my herb boxes from Decor Steals that used to be in our dining room and move them into the kitchen for a pop of green and natural elements. I’ll also be keeping my rustic wood KITCHEN sign from Between You & Me Designs.

One of the biggest changes will be upgrading our appliances from black to stainless steel. I’ve heard mixed reviews from a few friends about how hard it is to keep stainless steel clean, but I personally love the look and wouldn’t mind the extra cleaning. With our cabinetry being on the darker side, our black appliances make our kitchen very dark, so the pop of stainless will be a fresh change.
I cannot wait to get started! These are small updates, but I think they will make big changes to our little kitchen. Have you done a kitchen remodel or made any small changes? I’d love to hear about it!
My goal is open shelving this year! Love all of these picks, it will look great!
