Spring is in the air and I have a new obsession with fresh flowers and plants in our home. The flowers just bring a different feeling to our house and make it feel so alive and fresh. I recently posted on Instagram that I can feel my style changing – I’m not sure if it is the season change, beginning the new year with simplicity or the fact that I just turned thirty. Whatever it is, I’m loving it and can’t wait to see where this feeling takes me!
I’ve been honored to join some amazingly talented bloggers for a trash to treasure segment where we take items from garage sales, thrift stores, or an item we were meaning to throw away and complete transform it. We have had this metal bucket in our garage for years. In fact, I don’t even remember what we used it for originally but I’m pretty sure we only used it once. Just recently, I saw these amazing flower buckets at a farmhouse boutique online but I couldn’t justify the high price tag for them. So, I decided to take that old bucket in the garage and make my own!

Supplies used:
(contains affiliate links)
– Martha Stewart Chalk Paint in Beetle Black
– small letter stencils (I used these from Target)
Optional:
– hammered spray paint (for a more galvanized look)
– Martha Stewart antique max (for an aged look)
– masking tape
Luckily, I had all of my supplies on hand so this project was super easy for me to pull together. I used the lines of the bucket as the guide for my stencil, but masking tape will work too. I centered my letters and tried to space them as evenly as I could. Because I only had one size stencil, I switched it up a little and decided to add a dollar amount to the top, instead of the numbers like the inspiration buckets.
The stencil spacing was a little too big for my liking, so I took a small brush and filled in the gaps carefully. I continued around the bucket doing one letter at a time. The whole project took about thirty minutes and dried quickly. Add some fresh flowers and then you’ve got a beautiful flower bucket for almost FREE!
If this doesn’t make you ready for spring, then I don’t know what does! I’ll be honest, I thought this project was going to be a total dud until I added these flowers into the bucket. It made the project come alive. It’s an easy DIY that makes a big impact. What do you think?
