I’m back and planning a huge update for my office! I’ve kind of been a bad blogger these last few weeks. I’ve been super busy with work, e-designs, and house projects. Plus, my sisters wedding is this weekend so I’ve been packing and getting ready for that. So exciting! However, I’ve been planning a little office makeover in my head for quite a few weeks now and wanted to share my plans…
Lately, I’ve been noticing a change in my style. I’ve finally figured out exactly what I like – light bright spaces with fresh simple modern decor and a hint of farmhouse. I’ve made some changes in the living room recently with a new rug, curtains, and a tv console update (sharing on the blog soon) and I absolutely feel like it is how the space should of been all along.
When I saw this episode of Fixer Upper I absolutely fell in love with the “her’s office”. Of course, I dreamed about the day I could have an entire room dedicated as my office, but just like with my dining room – why dream when I can make it happen with the space I already have?
If you are new to the blog, my office space is actually an awkward angle in our hallway that was meant for cabinetry to create a linen area. When we were building our home, we couldn’t afford the cabinetry upgrade and now I’m so glad!
I am planning on keeping most of my existing decor & furniture – my desk, chair, lanterns, and glass vase. The biggest change will be adding shiplap and a cabinet. I love my simple open shelving, but they are just for decor. We need a place for our paper shredder, printer and office supplies.
Now with the blog, e-designs, and selling my beads I’m using this space more and more everyday. It needs to become practical and not just pretty. I plan on using a stock kitchen cabinet from Lowe’s that I will paint white to match the shiplap. I will build a custom door or modify one of the existing cabinet doors for the barn door track.
I have been thinking about making the sliding door with shiplap too. It might be tricky to line it up perfectly with the wall, but it would great if I can pull it off!
The cabinet will hide the uglies (printer and paper shredder) but I am putting a sliding cabinet door to keep one side open with pretty decor and accessories. Luckily, my friends at Rustica Hardware have mini track systems and the mini barn door track & hardware is the perfect size!
Ps. I totally got this idea from the ladies at Shanty to Chic but I’m modifying the cabinet (aka not building it myself) to fit my space.
I cannot wait to get started on this project! If you’re curious I’ve sourced all the times below in affiliate links, some of these items I have had for years and others I just picked up last week!
