Last week, I posted a mid-year check in with our diy project list and what we had planned to complete for the house this year. On that list was creating a custom closet design for our master bedroom. I thought we wouldn’t be able to compete this project until next year, but opportunity came a knocking and I answered. Our master closet now is very builder grade, ya know the kind where they just throw up a shelf, a couple rods and call it a day? Meh.
Our closet is a nice size, but is lacking on organization and style. I dream of a closet with double hanging, more shelving, and shoe racks. After looking at expensive closet systems online and at local stores, I’ve decided to diy. I browse Pinterest into the midnight hours looking for a great tutorial. It’s hard because every closet is a different size, shape, and style. Plus, everyone’s needs are different. I’ve got down the basics but then I’ll just have to wing it.

My closet design board features our new light from Lamps Plus as the main star of the show. We might be getting new floors, but more on that later! I haven’t decided if I want white shelving or gray shelving, but when I saw this stenciled wall from Making It in the Mountains with Royal Design Studio, I knew it had to go somewhere in our home. We have one angled wall in our closet that is useless for storage, so I’m going to make it the focal point with the stenciled wall and art from Vine and Branches.
A jute runner and small tufted ottoman will anchor the space and make it feel more grown up. Speaking of grown up, nothing says grown up closet like wooden hangers. Right now we have a rainbow of colored plastic ones from my college days, and they’ve just got to go. This weekend I’ll be cleaning out the closet and getting rid of a lot of clothing. Hopefully, Joe will part with those corduroy pants he thinks will come back in style. 🙂
