I’m so excited to be back sharing my version of The Home Depot’s Do-It-Herself Virtual Party’s Holiday Ornament Display! If you missed the announcement last week, myself and three other bloggers were picked by our host Sandra at The Rustic Life to participate in The Home Depot Virtual DIY Workshops. They are a fun way to create something new, learn a new skill, and have fun!
I created a custom ornament display to match my holiday decor. If you have been following this little blog for awhile, you know I’m a neutral loving girl so its no different for the holidays. I also LOVE snowflakes! It never snows where we live in California, so I’m always drawn to including snowflakes in my holiday decor.
This little project is so easy and completely customizable to your space!

HOLIDAY ORNAMENT DISPLAY SUPPLIES:
(all from The Home Depot)
- 1x8x12 common board
- 1x6x8 common board
- 1x4x6 common board
- Circular Saw
- Box of #8 1 1/4 Phillips Screws
- Box of Multi Pack Ornaments, I used silver and gold in different sizes
- Paint or Stain, I used some left over white craft paint
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks, I used an old one but I really want this new Ryobi Glue Gun
- Measuring Tape
- Safety Goggles
- Sanding Block
First, measure and cut (3) 48″ sections from the 1x8x12 board and (2) 48″ sections from the 1x6x8 board. These pieces will be the backdrop for your ornament display. Then, measure and cut (2) 30″ sections from the 1x4x6 board – these will be the pieces on the back that hold it all together. I cut my boards at 36″ each because I wanted a more square backdrop for my piece.
Use a sanding block to smooth out any rough edges. Layout all five 48″ boards flat interchanging between the 8″ wide boards and the 6″ wide boards. Leave a 1/4″ gap between all boards and use the left over smaller boards as braces. Center each board across the width of the other side boards and use screws to hold them in place.
Stain or paint, I used some old white craft paint and love how the wood grain still shows through. When the paint dries, attach holiday ornaments in desired design with hot glue.
I created mine in a snowflake pattern, by drawing it out with a pencil first. Then, I attached a mixture of small and large ornaments to create the shape. I love snowflakes and use them in my holiday decor almost every year! I also love mixing metals, so naturally I mixed silver and gold.

The Home Depot provides FREE Workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels. There are three types of workshops: Do-It-Yourself (DIY), Do-It-Herself (DIH) and Kids. Workshops are where customers can learn how to build decor projects, how to make easy home repairs and how to operate tools through demonstrations and step-by-step instructions. I just recently took a Do-It-Yourself Workshop on installing a tile backsplash and couldn’t believe everything I learned. Visit http://workshops.homedepot.com to learn more.
