Every once in awhile, I receive a comment on social media or from a family/friend asking if our home is staged or if it really looks like the pictures I post. One friend even asked ‘how can you live like that? Isn’t it uncomfortable?” and while I still don’t understand that particular question, I’d thought I share a real house tour.
Our home is not perfect. Yah sure, ninety percent of the time it is clean but items are still out of place – there is mail on the kitchen counter, dishes in the sink, etc. But with the holidays last year, I was super busy with work, holiday house tours, blogging deadlines, our new flooring and a few more secret projects I will be sharing soon so our house got more messy than I would ever like to admit.
One afternoon as I began to look around, I thought it would be fun to take a few photos just to prove that this is our home and this is our real life. Things pile up, get pushed into another room and eventually look like this –
MY OFFICE
My desk is right off the living room and kitchen, so mail and anything else we don’t want on the kitchen counters gets moved here. I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve only actually sat here once to work on the blog. But, I have big plans to change that this year!
SPARE/GUEST BEDROOM
This bedroom has become the catch all for my extra decor, storage for upcoming projects, and anything else I’m not sure what to do with yet. Joe calls it my “supply room” but I call it my arch nemesis. It’s the room that I can never keep clean, the one I want to bulldoze thru, the one room that needs the most help. I can spend a week cleaning it out and in a month it will look like this again. That’s what has happened the last two years, so this year I’m going to tackle this space head on and keep it clean.
MASTER BEDROOM
Our bedroom got a major makeover last year including our new floors, but on a daily basis this is what it actually looks like. Just an unmade bed, some extra pillows on the floor, oh and a few pictures that fell off the wall. 🙂
MASTER BATHROOM
My worst habit. Leaving it all out on the sink. Make-up, nail polish, toothpaste, you name it. Another habit I intend to break this year. For the record, Joe’s side of the sink is completely spotless, he’s learned to overlook mine.
This is our home unedited, in raw form. Oh em gee I can’t believe I just put it out there like this – but this is real life people. Does this answer your question? Haha. Life is too short to care about the making our home perfect all the time, even though deep down I’d secretly love that but the stress isn’t worth it.
Just a reminder that what you see here on the blog and on social media from most bloggers, myself included, is real life. It’s just not real life all the time. 🙂
Pretty sure this is one of my favorite posts i’ve read. I love it when bloggers take a break from what we believe is their “perfect & always put together” lives and show real life! Makes the rest of us feel not so horrible lol
Haha! NEVER feel horrible, this is real life.
I love it! Yes, design/style/lifestyle bloggers are real people who really live in their spaces and even get messy sometimes! Thanks for sharing.
Yep, thank you! 🙂
