I am soooooooooo excited to be doing another round of the One Room Challenge as a guest participant! If you’re not familiar, the One Room Challenge is a six week biannual event that happens every April and October. On Wednesdays, twenty chosen designers share a space they working on along with sources and design tips. However, everyone with a blog is lucky enough to join in on the fun as a Guest Participant and share their own spaces every Thursday!
During the last round in October, I completed our master bedroom and it was so much fun! This round I am doing our master bath and I can’t wait to get started! And a special thank you to all my sponsors – Quality Bath, LexMod, Royal Design Studio Stencils & Lamps Plus!
Our bathroom now is pretty builder basic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but meh. It’s pretty boring and I know it can be improved. Our laminate countertops, basic sinks, fixtures, and lighting are all getting an upgrade. I will even be diving into a little DIY tiling for the walls and floors. Our linoleum flooring is nothing special and needs to be replaced. Since we installed our Pergo flooring in the master bedroom, it has been screaming for an upgrade.
BEFORE
The only changes I’ve made since moving in were painting and adding some decor. We also removed the towel bars and replaced them with some hooks, but now I am ready to replace those too. I wanna take our bathroom from builder basic to a sophisticated and modern look with a simple black, white, and wood color scheme.
ONE ROOM CHALLENGE
MASTER BATH DESIGN BOARD
- update shower & fixtures
- install subway tile
- install hexagon floor tile
- update vanity & sinks
- remove builder mirror and replace with two smaller round mirrors
- update all lighting
- replace and simplify decor & accessories
We have a lot of work to do on our bathroom and I am terrified we won’t finish in time! Although, we aren’t doing any structural changes, I think this will be an awesome update. For the next six weeks, every Thursday I will be sharing updates to the room. Then, I will share more details and sources for the design. I can’t wait to get started and share it all! If you’d like to follow along with my weekly posts, be sure to sign up for blog updates!

Aww thank you friend!
Love it! It sounds like we are in the same boat–I did our master bedroom last fall and will be doing our master bathroom this go around. The tile sounds like it is going to be so pretty. I can’t wait to see how it turns out 🙂
Thank you! I’ll be sure to check out yours!
Your design board is sooooo good, I love the white/black/wood combo! We’re doing a bathroom this round too, so I’m looking forward to checking all the other bathroom bloggers haha!

ahh love the plan so much, Allison! I can’t wait to see what you’re doing with the shower door – I so want to do that with our shower!
Thanks girl!
I was so excited to see your bathroom layout because it’s almost exactly like mine, and we need a major makeover. We even have the same lighting fixture over the large mirror as you do. I can’t wait to read about all of your details and get some inspiration to finally tackle our project.
Thank you! It’s def a “builder basic” – I hope I can inspire you!
I must say you have a very beautiful kitchen. Thanks for sharing the idea.
Allison – your design board looks amazing – can’t wait to see what you do with this space!
