It’s the fourth week of the One Room Challenge and we are working on our master bathroom. If you missed the previous weeks, check them out for all the design plans, details and what we have done so far!
And a special thank you to all my sponsors – Quality Bath, LexMod, Royal Design Studio Stencils & Lamps Plus!
Wow! It has been a crazy week! We got so much done and I am so excited! After last week with my grandmother’s passing, I thought we would be really far behind but luckily I had a few days off from work (Joe did too) and we got to team up and accomplish so much!
We tiled our floors! This might be one of our biggest projects yet, but we did it and I’m so excited. I was a little nervous about it at first (I don’t know why) but we watched a few YouTube videos and just kind of did it. I’ve never even tiled a backsplash before, but floor yah sure no problem. 🙂
We also tiled right over our old vinyl sheet flooring. I say old but it’s not, it is basically brand new and only three years old (like our house) but it needed an upgrade. I will be sharing a DIY tutorial soon with all the details but in short, we removed all the baseboards, cleaned up the old floor really good and started tiling.
As we were working, I began to notice the floor was looking more gray than white. The tiles I ordered were white, so I panicked for a minute and checked my samples and my order. I did order white. The tiles do look white in other parts of our house, but in the bathroom they appear light gray.
The samples I ordered, cleary the gray is definitely gray and white is white. But on their own, they both look gray. Honestly, I’m not sure what happened. Originally, I planned on white tiles with light gray grout. But since the tiles appeared light gray, I went back to Home Depot and got bright white grout instead.
By the end of the night, I was in love! So happy for whatever “accident” this was. Again, I’ll be sharing a full tutorial soon with all the products we used and how we did it.
The next morning, they looked even better and I got started on removing the rest of the door trim. If you follow along on Instagram, you might of seen in my stories a few weeks ago when I was shared laying out some molding in the middle of Lowe’s.
Well surprise! It’s for our bathroom window and door trim. There are many tutorials on Pinterest from other bloggers because it’s a pretty basic build. But even so, I still needed to “lay it all out” so I could see how it would look. I used common boards and spent a few extra minutes searching for the straightest and best ones I could find. I’ll share a tutorial post on these soon too!
Since we removed all the old baseboards, I replaced them with some a little more big and bulky. I like big baseboards and I cannot lie. 🙂 We matched the baseboards to the ones in our bedroom and I love them. Still have some caulking and painting to do, but it is getting there!
Another exciting thing that happened this week was getting our new Lamps Plus lighting installed (pre-floor). We called in an electrician for this job and I’m so glad. We needed our large single vanity light to become two smaller ones and it wasn’t a job we felt we could tackle.
Luckily, we called in the pros because there was water lines directly behind where the new light fixture needed to be! I would have just drilled right into the wall without even thinking and it would of been a huge DISASTER!
I’m obsessed with our new vanity lights and Joe loves them too! Our pendant light from LexMod is a great compliment to our hexagon floor tile and I think it’s the perfect size for our bathroom. For this area, we still have to remove the builder mirror and tile the whole wall!
I also got a call regarding our new vanity top and there has been a delay in the manufacturing. Grrr. They promised me they were still on track for a two week turn around but I have my doubts. So I’m going to continue working on what I need to finish and hope for the best!
Allison, I am loving your tile floors! Way to go on this major DIY project! Wish we had in our budget, but for now our tile floors are staying put in the bathrooms. This is going to be beautiful and excited for the big reveal! Let’s do this! Sarah
Thank you! It was actually super affordable!
Awesome last minute switch up with the grout! It looks really nice 🙂
Thank you! I thought so too 🙂
The tiles look great! I love hexagon tiles, they add such a fun flair to a space while still feeling timeless.
Thank you! Agreed, I wanted something with a little pop but something I wouldn’t get tired of in a few years!
The floor looks wonderful! You did a great job! I’m going to attempt to tile our kitchen back splash soon and I’m so nervous!
Don’t be nervous! It’s so easy!
Looks good! I really like the hanging geometric light fixture!
Thank you! It’s one of my favorites too!
I love the tile shape and the color! Frustrating though when its not what you planned on.
Thanks! I’m loving it now!
