I first got the idea for a “floating” dining bench sometime last year and I just couldn’t let it go. Once we installed our new flooring throughout the rest of the house, I thought it would be the perfect time for a little dining room makeover. This is the fourth time I have re-done this dining room in the three years we’ve lived in this house!

The board and batten and window molding has made all the difference and makes the room feel so much bigger! I love that it feels much more open without losing character or seating. Plus it looks so clean and uncluttered!
I’m happy we were able to keep our existing chandelier. I think it works well with the new space and keeps the space from feeling too modern. Plus, my West Elm table isn’t going anywhere. I love that it works with all different styles.

Not sure why but lately I have been obsessed with patterns and texture! Mixing ALL the patterns! I wanted the bench to be wide enough for lots of pillows to act as a back rest, plus the pillows don’t look like they are falling off. It’s perfect and plush and I just want to curl up. Plus, I was able to create this 13 foot bench cushion for less than $100 and I did it all myself without sewing a single thread…I’ll share more on that soon!
I also wanted to keep the table decor super simple and uncluttered. I’ve been so inspired by Studio McGee lately and decided to DIY my own painted jar. I used a jar and paint I already had, so I’ve got a new decor piece for free! I’ll be sharing a tutorial soon on how I created this super simple look!
One thing I really love about the new bench, is it doubles as a dining bench and a window bench, or just a place to sit and relax. I’ve caught Joe sitting there already a few times and he says its a great place to take a nap. 🙂
Because of the bench, I couldn’t have our long hanging curtains anymore but luckily I was able to still use the ones I already bought and created faux roman shades! We still have our wooden blinds for privacy, so these faux roman shades stay in place and don’t affect our blinds.
Overall, I am super happy with our new dining space. I feel like it has set the tone for the rest of the house. I love the clean and uncluttered space!
