Growing up, I remember my mom always making a bunny ear cake. It was so cute and my sister and I looked forward to it every year. Now, I’m making my own bunny ear cakes, but with a little twist of my own style. I’ve been wanting to make a naked cake ever since they became popular a few years ago. I figured Easter was the best time to finally do it. I’m addicted. A naked cake is the easiest thing, I’ve ever made! (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
BUNNY EAR CAKE
What you’ll need:
- box cake mix or your favorite cake recipe, flavor of choice
- (2) 9-inch round cake pans
- frosting, flavor of choice
- small spatula
- cake stand
- white cardstock
- bunny ear printable, download it here
- cake pop sticks
- tape
I used a box cake mix and baked according to directions, then let cool. I put the first cake round on a cake stand and added frosting to the top. Then stacked the second cake round on top. To “fill” the gap between the two cakes, use the frosting and flat end of the spatula to smooth. Tip: spin the cake stand as you work to make smoothing the frosting easier. I created the bunny ears on my computer and printed them onto white cardstock. Once printed, cut them out and tape to the back of the cake pop sticks. Insert into top of the cake!
For the tablescape, I wanted to keep it simple and easy. I used everything I had around the house, like white dishes from the kitchen and my go-to candles. One of my favorite elements is my Rae Dunn easter plates. I’ve sold most of my Rae Dunn collection, but these I kept and I’m so glad I did. They are no longer available, but I found some similar bunny plates here!
