One question I always receive is how I keep our bedding bright white. Like most people, I was hesitant about having all white bedding, but with a few tips I learned, I’ve been able to keep our bedding bright white for over 2 years now. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
WASH REGULARLY & SEPARATELY IN COLD WATER
Naturally, our bodies produce oils, dirt, and sweat (gross, but true) that cause the yellow staining in the areas where we sleep. Not to mention – makeup, dirty feet, our dog, late night snacks, etc. also end up in our bed. I stick to a routine of washing our sheets every other week and our duvet cover monthly. Also, never mix white bedding or sheets with any other clothing or blankets. Wash them separately and on a cold cycle.
DO NOT USE BLEACH
Bleach causes yellowing over time. Besides, who wants to use something harsh, when it has to be on our skin every night? Instead, I use OxiClean White Revive. I add a cup to my washer in the bleach compartment, along with our regular laundry detergent.
Our duvet cover and sheets come out bright white every time. Plus, it smells great – fresh and clean! Still looking a little dingy? Tip: soak the bedding overnight in the bathtub with lukewarm water and 1-2 cups of OxiClean White Revive Powder. Then, wash as normal. I had to do this the first time with our duvet cover and it’s been bright white ever since!
USE A LINT ROLLER
This is a weird one, but it’s a little trick I’ve learned over the years. Dust, dirt, fabric fibers, dog hair, etc. usually land on the bed and with a white duvet, it’s very noticeable. This large lint roller picks it all up and quickly!
Our duvet is a linen blend, so it still has the look of linen, wrinkles and all, with the ability to be bright and modern. It’s one of my favorite bedding purchases and is so comfortable, so I’m keeping it white for years to come!

Hello Allison! Love your blog, and everything you post!
I’ve always had white bedding and this is great info! Love your bedding can you tell me how your making your bed? Sounds weird I know, but I want it to look just like yours. ?The link for the blue blanket? Isnt working…..thanks so much!
Thank you Heather! The blue blanket is from Target years ago and probably not available anymore. For the bed, I keep it simple. Fold down the duvet about 3/4 of the way. Then, layer a quilt at the end of the bed. A few pillows layer down in the back and 2 shams in front, with 2 accent pillows. I will write another post soon about how I do it! 🙂
