I am sooo excited to start my first big DIY project of the year. I have been wanting to do something drastic in our living room for a while now. My thoughts about our living room have always been that it’s a little boring and really needed a focal point. At first, I wanted to add a corner fireplace, then I decided I wanted built-ins instead. I’m actually glad I delayed this project for so long because it really gave me time to think about it and I was able to combine both with this new living room design. LIVING ROOM DESIGN DETAILS
I still love our sofa from Joss & Main and our gray modern recliners might have been our best purchase. I will also be keeping our black and white rug and accent table. To save money, I will DIY the leather poufs. The built-ins are the Billy bookcases from IKEA and I will be adding trim for a more custom look. The fireplace is electric and I will also be adding a DIY custom mantel. I would like to add lighting to the built-ins, but I don’t know for sure until I can get everything put together. To be honest, I’m kind of winging this project because I don’t know how everything will come together until I can get the bookcases built. Update: see the completed built-ins here!
The first part of the project will be the built-ins and then the second half will be the fireplace. Because winter is ending soon and spring will be here before we know it, I might wait for the fireplace project until fall. Our media cabinet is still new and I still love it, so I am not rushing to change it anytime soon. However, I might get started on this project and just want to see it through my whole vision. As I mentioned, I am totally winging this! But, I’ll be sure to share the whole process along the way!

I love the built-in renderings. Here’s what my eye sees…In #1, My eye went straight across. Everything seemed even. In #2, my eye danced over the set up and caught my interest. I liked the connection from the one unit to the fireplace. It looked like it belonged! #3 seemed disjointed. More like 3 separate pieces not talking to each other. Make sense? I’m in no way a designer and I know whatever you do comes out Golden!🥰
