Sometimes I feel like our house is nearing completion and is almost at a point where I can say I’m happy with every room. DIY projects and constant improvement over the last few years cost us a few pretty pennies. If you have been reading this blog for a while, then you know I like to save money when I can and challenge myself with no spending sprees. However, that doesn’t mean my urge to improve our home goes away. So, I’m sharing 5 free ways to improve your home that you can do right now, this weekend, or whenever the urge strikes!
FREE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR HOME
REARRANGE FURNITURE
Rearranging furniture is a free update that will make a big impact. As a kid, I used to rearrange my room constantly and was always helping my mom rearrange the living room furniture. Unfortunately, in our own house, we don’t have many options for furniture placement, but a quick switch of the sofa and our two recliners does the trick!
RESTYLE A BOOKSHELF
…or console table, nightstand, entry table, etc. Restyle anything you want! Use items you have around the house and think outside the box. I recently restyled our built-ins and I love them even more now. Remove everything from the space and start completely over, it will help with the process and ensure you get a whole new look.
CLEAN OUT CLOSETS AND PURGE
Clean out closets of clothes or shoes you no longer wear and donate them. Purge the junk drawer, organize drop zones, and clean out the linen closet. It’s free and you will feel so accomplished afterward. Plus, you’re doing a good deed and donating to your community. Check out my 10 days to an organized clutter-free home challenge and 31 Day Purge!
DO SOME DEEP CLEANING
Deep cleaning is one of my favorite ways to make our home feel fresh. We surface clean on the regular, but every couple of months I like to take it to the next level. Cleaning out kitchen cabinets, wiping everything down, cleaning tops of doorways, baseboards, light switches, light fixtures, the top of the refrigerator, etc. All of those places you don’t think about on a daily basis. Check out my cleaning checklist!
CRAFT, DIY, OR PRINT FREE ART
Do a simple craft from supplies you already have or maybe a DIY project with scrap wood, like my faux fireplace or tealight holder. Browse online for free printable art or print new family pictures and switch out the frames in your home for a new look! Check out my free art ideas!
I’ll be implementing a lot of these ideas in the next few months. I have a whole list of things that need to get done around the house, like paint touch-ups and caulking. Plus, I have tons of scrap wood and a few ideas for new DIY projects!
