Halloween is definitely my favorite (after Christmas of course) and I love this time of the year. I’ve always loved all the horror movies, haunted houses, costumes, and candy. I like to decorate our porch and the inside of our home. This year I was a little behind and Joe kept asking when I was going to decorate. Last week, I finally got an idea for spooky shelves and decided to decorate our bookshelves. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
I wanted to do both sides of the shelving and have them look similar but not exact. Using mostly decor I already had I placed a few items and then added skulls from the craft store. I needed more black books, so I headed to the thrift store for fifty-cent books and bought all the ones I could find. It was a cheap way to add black to my decor without looking too Halloween-ish. I prefer my decor to be a nod to the holiday, but not so in your face. Then, I’ll save my spiderwebs, skeletons, and bats for our front porch.
I didn’t care about the titles of the books, (let’s just pretend Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood is a witch book about potions) they just had to be black. They all ended up being black with gold letters, so it was perfect for the gold pumpkin stems I already had on these Target Dollar Spot pumpkins.
For the picture frames, I used pages from a magazine all about the most haunted places in the world. High-quality photos for just a few bucks! Now that my simply spook shelves and Halloween decorating is done, I’m ready to watch a few scary movie marathons. Then, put on some Halloween music, light some candles, and get the candy ready for all the trick or treaters!
