A few years ago, I started doing a no spending challenge in the month of February. When I first started the challenge, I was scared and chose the shortest month to take it on. Now it has become a more frequent thing, and I’m not just doing it in February anymore. In fact, I’ve upped my game and even challenge myself to 15 days of no spending each month out of the year. I have all the details in my post from back then, but since I am doing the challenge again this month I thought it would be fun to share the free DIY projects I’ll be working on.
I say free (to me) because of course, I have spent money on the supplies for these projects – like wood, paint, stain, etc. However, they are scraps or were planned out months ago. So because I’m technically not buying the supplies in the month of February, then I haven’t spent any money and I’m still winning at the challenge. Makes sense?
BASEBOARDS AND TRIM
All of our baseboards and door trim need to be repainted. It was one of my house goals for this year and since I always have a full can of white paint laying around, this month is a perfect time.
ENTRY CONSOLE
Our entryway console has been on the to-do list for way too long. As you can see, the handles are all crooked and need to be fixed. I’ve decided to sand off all the layers of paint and stain it black. I love that it will have the same black effect, but also be able to show the wood grain. Plus without the four layers of paint, I’ll be able to screw the handles back on properly. UPDATE: check out the completed stained entry console!
PAINT THE LAUNDRY ROOM
Rember the can of white paint I mentioned? Well, the laundry room needs to be painted and it’s also one of my rooms this year I would like to update. So, I’ll get a head start on that.
DIY BATH TRAY
I have always wanted a bath tray and its the perfect DIY project. Scrap wood and a little bit of stain can go a long way. UPDATE: check out my DIY bath tray!
PAINT THE FRONT DOOR
When I painted our front door a few years ago, I messed up somewhere because the paint is coming off around the door handle and edges of the door. I’m going to repaint it and seal it with polyurethane.
These are just a few free DIY projects from around the house that need to get done and completing them during a no spending challenge seems like the perfect time. I’m sure during this month I will find even more to do, but I think this is a good start! Are there any free projects you can do around your house?
