When it comes to decorating, simple coffee table styling is one of my favorite things to do. If you follow along on Instagram, you might have seen a few weeks ago I rearranged our living room furniture. I was really excited about it because it allowed us to now have a coffee table. And I got to styling right away. So, I’m sharing 3 different looks using things I had around the house and a few simple tips. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
I was able to use a bench from our bedroom and recover it in faux black leather to create this coffee table. It’s still soft enough for us to put our feet on, easy to clean, and the perfect size. I was originally planning on purchasing this black metal coffee table, but luckily I was able to use something we already had.
SIMPLE COFFEE TABLE STYLING MUST-HAVES
- books
- tray or bowl
- any decorative object
- candle
With these four items, you can create different looks for every season, holiday, or mood. They are a great “cheat sheet” to remember. And you can repeat the same rules over and over while getting different looks with different items.
Use books to create height and as a base for smaller items. Coffee table books are beautiful and deserve to be displayed. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites in my Amazon shop! Plus, they can be browsed through for inspiration and are great conversation starters.
A simple tray or bowl adds a new shape, but can also make daily items like remotes and coasters, look pretty. Larger trays can be used to hold candles and other decorative items without appearing cluttered. Plus when everything is on a tray, cleaning and dusting are easy.
Once the bases are set, then you can add decorative objects or candles. Groups of three work best and you can create height variations with these objects also. Lighting a candle is an instant cozy factor and smells great too. It kind of makes lounging on the couch and watching tv feel fancy.
With these simple coffee table styling tips, you can create any look you want. And it will look great every time. I like to switch up the decor with items I already have from around the house. Remember you don’t have to add large florals, vases, or large sculptures to create height and levels. It can still be kept minimal, easy, and look great.
