Here in California fall doesn’t really exist and the crisp air doesn’t hit until November. So putting pumpkins out in August just isn’t my thing. However, I do like to add simple and subtle fall decor around the house. I’m also sharing a few tips on how to add simple fall touches to your home without the pumpkins. And, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite fall decor items. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
5 TIPS FOR SIMPLE & SUBTLE FALL DECOR
- Warm Wood Tones
- Textured Fabrics
- Moody Art
- Warm Metals
- Crisp Scents
In the entry and on the bookshelves, I like to add more texture and more color with ceramic vases, glass bottles, and warm metals. Gold or brass picture frames and warm woods add a subtle fall touch without being too much.
Changing the art around the house is also an easy update. I like to purchase printable art, like this one, and frame it. In the kitchen, I add warmer wood tones like this cake stand and these smoke-colored glasses. Dark grey napkins and a pretty flour sack kitchen towel help too. It also doesn’t hurt to have a great fall scented candle burning, whether it smells like warm pumpkin pie or crisp autumn air.

I also like to have a subtle plaid or herringbone on a cozy throw. It’s time to toss the cotton and linens and bring in the velvet, wool, and leathers.
