One thing I learned this year is that I am not a weekend DIYer. Since going back to work full-time, tackling a big project on the weekend was not something I wanted to do. I tackled one big project early in the year, and that was our laundry room. After that, it was much more decorating and organization. Either way, 2021 was a great year personally and I learned so much about myself and what I truly enjoy. So, I’m sharing the most liked simple decorating and DIY projects of 2021.
GREIGE PAINT COLORS
One of the most popular posts of 2021 was my favorite Valspar greige paint colors. Greige has been a popular color for the last couple of years and will be sticking around for a while. I plan on adding more greige to our house next year and can’t wait to share more!
PEEL & STICK TILE
As I mentioned, the laundry room was my big project for the year. And how to install peel and stick floor tile was another popular post. This tile was the easiest project too! It’s holding up great almost a year later and is perfect for a small area like a mudroom or laundry.
EASY IKEA HACKS
It is no secret our house is full of easy Ikea hacks, from the entryway console table, builtins in the living room, our bedroom nightstands, my built-in office, and organization in our kitchen. Any time I’m brainstorming a new DIY, Ikea is the first place I look for affordable materials and ideas.
POPULAR FLOORING COLORS
One of the most useful posts of this year is on popular flooring colors. I got so many samples and chose all of my favorites. I broke it down into groups from light to medium tones and even a few darks. Included are both hardwood and luxury vinyl planks. Such a great resource when choosing flooring options!
BLACK PAINT COLORS
Paint colors are always popular posts when it comes to decorating & DIY projects, including the post on my favorite black paint colors by Valspar. Before this post, I didn’t realize how many undertones there were in black paint. Many have green, brown, blue, and even purple undertones.
MINI LAMPS FOR THE KITCHEN
Another popular trend and unexpected popular post is about lamps in the kitchen. This is a trend that is either loved or hated, but either way I shared a few of my favorite mini lamps. And with a few more weeks of cold and gloomy weather, I might have to put the lamp back.
PANTRY LABELS
One of my personal favorites from this year is the DIY pantry and spice labels. All you need is a printer and some tape to recreate these labels! I still love opening this drawer when I’m cooking and seeing the organization.
VINTAGE ART PRINTS
If you are a regular Designed Simple follower, then you know that I share a lot of free art ideas. Including vintage art prints for every season, and most recently formatted to digital tv art too. Browsing for art is one of my favorite things to do and I plan to keep it sharing the more I find.
DIY PAINTED CABINETS
At this point, I have painted almost every cabinet in our home. They used to be a dark espresso brown and are now all a bright white. And I shared how to paint cabinets without sanding or a sprayer earlier this year. They have worked out great and I am a fan of this technique as a temporary solution.
It’s always fun to look back at the year and everything I’ve completed. And I still can’t believe I have even more that I plan on doing. I don’t think a home is ever truly finished, it just keeps evolving. And I can’t wait.
