This year one of my house goals & plans was to update our living room. In fact, I’m wanting to take our whole house from a modern farmhouse to a mix of modern and traditional. I’ve been seeing a lot of new trends lately and wanted to incorporate those into our home and main living areas. So, I’ve rounded up 6 of the living room rends I’m adding to our home in 2022. VINTAGE PIECES
I’ve been hunting Facebook marketplace and local thrift stores for an end table similar to this barley twist wooden side table. Finding an old coffee table would be great too. With all of the delays and shortages in furniture lately, thrift stores and secondhand is the best option. Plus it’s timeless and trending!
MINIMALISM & MULTIFUNCTIONALITY
Maximalism is making a comeback, but minimalism and multifunctionality are here to stay. As you may know, I’m a big fan of minimalism but still like pretty things. And with our small-ish house multifunctionality is a big factor. Our living room is our hang-out space, home theater, gym, library, and sometimes even home office. With everyone staying home a couple of years ago, this has been more important than ever for a lot of families.
DECORATIVE STORAGE
And with all the multi-functions our living room serves, decorative storage is also a must. Our built-ins provide a lot of that storage and we even have hidden storage within our fireplace mantel. I have plans this year to also update our fireplace with bigger moldings and new paint color.
ROUND FURNITURE
I scored big at Goodwill a few weeks ago with this brand new Studio Mcgee Target chair for $100. Did you know Target donates its clearance items to Goodwill? It is curved and classic, and surprisingly very comfortable. I’d also like to add a new sectional or two new sofas. But again, with delays and shortages, what we have now is just fine until I find something.
MOODY COLORS
Even though I’m a neutral lover, I plan on adding this Loloi Layla rug in the color antique and moss. With its deep greens and tans, it will bring just enough color to the space while still being neutral.
MIXING FINISHES
Our home has a lot of black fixtures that include all of our lighting and most of the hardware. I have brass hardware on our entry table and have always loved it. I plan to add more brass hardware to our built-ins and kitchen. Changing the hardware is a quick and affordable way to update a piece of furniture or cabinet.
I’m currently working on painting the built-ins and adding new picture lights and hardware. I also have been repainting the walls of our main living room a creamy white to go with the gray built-ins. Slowly but surely, these updates are happening and I can’t wait to see these new living room trends in our space!
