We’ve all seen the Ins and Outs posts of 2025 on social media. So, I decided to do an ins and outs of home decor for my new house – goals, decor plans, and the feelings I want my home to evoke. Creating a beautifully designed home is much more than just filling a room with furniture; it’s about crafting a space that reflects your personality, supports your lifestyle, and evokes the right emotions.

My design style will always be a reflection of me – minimal, neutral, and clean. However, I want to add some cozy touches, moody colors, and darker wood tones without it being too traditional or “grandma chic”. I also believe that home decor should reflect the roots of a house. Farmhouse style should be left on the farm, and mid-century modern should reflect the architecture of the home. The rambler ranch is not a new construction like my California house. It has smaller windows, smaller rooms, lower ceilings, etc. – so I want to reflect that coziness in my decor.

I loved the style in my California house – white kitchen, light gray walls, bright rooms, and all black hardware. But before I moved I had already started making changes and plans to update it. It already felt outdated and boring. The home had a good base of design and so I could have updated it easily and added more moody colors and a few furniture swap outs.
Of course this list of ins and outs of home decor is just my opinion and there is no right or wrong. I actually get really excited about decorating and think its common for design styles and homes to changed. With basic and neutral pieces, decor can be easily changed and updated.
