Happy Tuesday! I am in Washington this week visiting my parents and having a great time! I realized that one of my most popular and most asked about DIYs on Instagram is not here on the blog. These shelves were one of the easiest shelving units I’ve ever installed. They are part of my office space and serve so much function. I also love switching up the decor every couple months.
My little office area is in our angled hallway. When we looked at the model home of this house, there were some upper and lower cabinets here that the builders called the “linen” area. It is in the hallway just outside two bedrooms and a hall bath. We had passed on the upgrade of more cabinetry because of the cost, but now I am so glad we did. When we first moved in, I bought a shelving unit from Target to store towels and sheets. The shelving unit was not big enough and still made the space look awkward because of the angle. One late night, I got the idea to create a small office space with a desk and open shelving. I found this desk from the Mixed Material Home Office Collection at Target and quickly measured my space to see if it would fit. I was so glad that it would fit perfectly, without even an inch to spare! It also matches the shelving I have in my dining room and with our open floor plan, I like furniture pieces to compliment each other.
I created this design board on Polyvore to see my vision. I had been loving the industrial pipe shelving and I’ve seen a few DIY versions on Pinterest. The piping was my original plan, until I went to Lowe’s and discovered these brackets for only $5 a piece. I already had some left over 1×4 wood from our DIY sofa table, that actually was already cut exactly to the size I needed. I couldn’t believe how perfectly everything was beginning to fit in this small space. I stained the wood using Minwax Special Walnut. I installed the brackets using drywall anchors and screws. I measured the distance and used a pencil and a level to mark where I would need my holes. The brackets are very easy to install. I plan on installing these shelves again in our bedroom, so I will write a full tutorial with pictures for that post.
A few art pieces, decor and accessories and my vision came to life. I love this little space and use it all the time. It is where I write most of my blog posts and do all of my e-designs. I love that I can see the tv in the living room from this spot – whohoo for open floor plans.
This office sign was custom made for me by my friend Dawn at Eventually Cottage. The wire baskets are from the Target Dollar Section and they are perfect for all of my books. The faux plants and globe are from Marshall’s. Letters, map, antlers, and glass terrarium are from Michael’s. The calendar and In Our Home Art is from Joss & Main. The large metal arrow is from Hobby Lobby. All other accessories are from Target including the lamp, desk chair, and basket. Pillows and seat cushion are from H&M Home.
