Our home is full of easy Ikea hacks! Our entryway, my office, our bedroom suite, and even our living room contains furniture made from Ikea. A lot of my major DIY projects have been done using products from Ikea. Their products are easy to build, easy to customize, and the possibilities are endless. And I think the secret to a good hack, is that you can’t immediately tell that it’s furniture from Ikea. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
DIY BUILT-INS
One of my proudest and most popular DIYs in our home is the built-ins using Ikea Billy bookcases. They created a great focal point for our living room, provided more storage, and overall just made the room feel more complete. It almost feels like they were always there and compliments the DIY fireplace nicely too.
KITCHEN DRAWER ORGANIZATION
Using careful measurements, I discovered Ikea’s kitchen drawer organizers fit our kitchen drawers. I was able to maximize space while providing much-needed organization in our kitchen. And for just a few dollars, I completely organized all of our kitchen drawers.
ENTRYWAY CONSOLE
The entryway console was one of my very first hacks. It uses two Tarva dressers, a black stain, and some brass hardware. It was one of my first big projects in our home way back in 2015. First, this console had a more farmhouse vibe, then I painted it green for a short time, and finally stained black. It provides much-needed storage in our entryway but also fills the angled wall nicely.
SMALL HOME OFFICE
This awkward hallway in our home was the perfect place for a small desk and home office area. But I needed lots of storage. So using Ikea kitchen cabinets I built them all the way up to the ceiling. Originally I just planned on having open shelving, but later added black glass cabinet doors for a sophisticated look. And I love this space so much!
NIGHTSTANDS WITH STORAGE
Another IKEA Tarva hack is our nightstands. They are dressers but work perfectly as nightstands with the legs cut down a bit. Again they provided the storage we needed when a standard dresser didn’t really fit in our bedroom. I’ve actually made these over a couple of times too, first with a more graphic design and now more recently with just my favorite stain combo.
Overall, I think simple and easy IKEA hacks are a great way to add affordable and custom furniture to a home. With so many possibilities, everyone can have a completely custom piece of furniture depending on the finishes and hardware used.
