I have been in love with this light for years! So when I had the opportunity to recreate it using another light fixture, I was ecstatic. I bought the original fixture on sale and planned on doing this DIY capiz shell pendant for my office in our future house. Ya know the house in my head that doesn’t exist yet? Anyways, I decided it was too good of a fixture to be stashed away in a closet and got to work. (post contains affiliate links, see disclosure)
This Restoration Hardware capiz shell pendant dupe ended up being perfect for our guest bedroom. I’ve slowly been working on updating it the last few months, and this was the final piece. Of course, this light fixture isn’t as big but it cost a fraction of the price and was still the perfect size for the room.
DIY CAPIZ SHELL PENDANT
SUPPLIES
- white capiz sphere pendant lamp
- black electrical ceiling hardware kit
- sharpie brush tip marker
- lots of patience
STEPS
At first, I started with a regular Sharpie and applied thin and even strokes on the gold areas of the light. But this seemed to be taking a while, so I grabbed the Sharpie brush tip and the process was much faster. Still being careful to apply even strokes and stay on the gold lines. The whole process took about 3 hours, but it was very easy.
It seems that this light fixture is now completely sold out online, but I have seen it in my local stores. At the end of this post, I rounded up a few other light fixtures that would work for this DIY capiz shell pendant or are similar already. And of course, the original fixture was great as is with the gold. But I really wanted black to match all of the other lighting fixtures in our home.
